Motorcycle accidents can have a devastating impact on victims and their families. A recent New Orleans area fatal motorcycle accident claimed the life of a motorcycle rider. The fatal motorcycle accident involved two vehicles and motorcycle. According to authorities, an improper lane change was to blame for the fatal motorcycle accident. The motorcycle accident occurred when an SUV improperly changed lanes from the right lane to the right center lane, striking and killing the victim.
A 64-year-old man was riding the motorcycle. The impact of the motorcycle accident sent the victim into the left center lane and he was thrown from his motorcycle. The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcycle continued down the roadway, striking a truck, but no additional injuries were reported.
According to authorities and a preliminary investigation, the driver of the SUV caused the motorcycle accident. The driver of the SUV submitted to a blood test and a toxicology test will be conducted.
Authorities noted that the investigation continues and that criminal charges are pending. Authorities also had a reminder for drivers to be cautious about other drivers and vehicles around them, especially when making a lane change and to avoid distracted driving.
Unfortunately, in far too many circumstances, drivers of motor vehicles fail to observe a motorcycle rider because they fail to pay close attention to the roadway. Motorcycle accidents can in turn result in devastating consequences for victims and their families.
When a careless or negligent driver has caused a fatal motorcycle accident, they may be liable to compensate victims and their families for the physical, financial and emotional damages they have suffered. Victims and their families should familiarize themselves with the legal options that may be available to them following a tragic fatal motorcycle accident.
