The majority of drivers in New Orleans are unlikely to be conducting extensive research into which roads are safe and which are not. However, it is up to local law enforcement, the legislature, and researchers to make certain that those who are using the roads are safe, and motorists do not have to bear the aftermath of a car crash. With that, it is important to understand how and why certain roads can have a higher frequency car accidents than others.
A recent study found that Interstate-10 is one of the most dangerous roads in the entire United States. Researchers with the insurer ValuePenguin found that in the past five years there have been more than 1,300 fatal crashes on I-10. For New Orleans in particular, there were 89 deaths.
Local residents provide anecdotal evidence of the frequency of these accidents saying they have either been involved themselves or have witnessed a large number of car crashes on this particular stretch of roadway. Law enforcement is also weighing in, saying that a large number of the accidents were because of drivers were distracted or impaired.. Speed is also deemed to be a factor in many of these crashes.
Considering the number of accidents that are happening on I-10, those who are taking this road need to know that they are at risk of being in a wreck. After an accident has occurred, a crash reconstruction, which helps determine how and why a wreck occurred, can assist in determining whether or not to file a legal claim. If such a claim is successful, it could lead to a recovery of medical expenses, lost wages, and other costs that might arise as a result of the crash. A lawyer who is cognizant of the statistics and is experienced in helping those who have been hurt or lost a loved one in an auto accident can provide guidance and assistance when seeking compensation.
