Driving a car can be risky for Louisiana residents. There is always the risk of an accident which can cause serious or fatal injuries. This risk comes from other drivers on the road, distractions found within the car and from larger commercial vehicles.
Recently, an accident involving a garbage truck and another truck occurred on Causeway Bridge in Covington, Louisiana. In this case, the garbage truck apparently crashed into the other truck. The force of collision was so strong that the other truck went over the guardrail of the bridge. The driver of that truck -- a New Orleans resident -- was killed in the truck accident.
Following the crash, the driver of the garbage truck was trapped in garbage truck for some time. However, authorities say that he was uninjured in the accident. Following an investigation by authorities, the garbage truck's driver has been arrested on various criminal charges relating to the accident. These include negligent homicide, reckless operation and negligent injuring.
In cases where drivers face criminal charges after a truck accident -- like in this case -- generally driver that has been charged has engaged in some sort of negligent behavior. In fact, their conduct was so reckless that it warranted criminal charges. While these criminal charges can ensure some justice is done, they cannot help to repay a family that has suffered the loss of a loved one in a serious car accident.
A civil suit, however, can help the victim and the victim's family. A civil suit can be filed against a truck driver or truck company in addition to a criminal case and can compensate families for their loss, including for medical expenses, lost wages, funeral costs and more.
